Hello!
I am new to In-Design and looking for an answer to the issue of removing the non-printable character ‘#’ that is appearing in the middle of the first sentence of a page. The page is not the first or last in the document. Location of # is strange because it is not at the end of a document. The end of the document does show this marker as expected.
I would prefer not to bring in or copy the text from the Word document again.
If you provide an answer, please be as specific as possible as I am very new to this software.
Thank you!

Hm. Is Type > Show Hidden Characters turned on? If so, it may be a “figure space”? See:

Hi David,
The character is a ‘#’ in blue. So as I understand it, it could be a marker for End of Story (or Document, I guess?) or a ‘Figure Space’ per the link provided.
But there are no figures on that page or on the page before or after it.
Still don’t understand how to remove/delete it.

Hi David,
And yes, Show Hidden Figures is turned on that’s how I noticed it.
The document is printing fine but am concerned it will create an issue with ePub.

Hi Aarti,
if you have additional “#” on your page, then have have probably empty textframes. This can be free floating textframes or anchored textframes. Since those frames will create a so called div-elemenent during the epub-export and generate also CSS, it is good practice to remove them.
So go to the find/change pannel, GREP tab and insert: \A\Z. If this will find something, click on escape and remove the frame.

Hi Kai,
There was indeed another frame hiding behind and I deleted it.
But I deleted it by moving the top frame that had the text. Once I moved this top frame out of the way, that’s when I could see the second frame which I deleted by selecting it. Since I deleted it this way, is there anything else I should look for to ensure it does not disrupt the ePub export?
Thank you so much for your helpful tip!

Aarti, since EPUB from InDesign is a difficult topic, I recommend watching the courses at lynda.com and visit epubsecrets.com. This gives you a good starting point.
