Repeating caption figure number

I’ve asked this question in two other forums, including Adobe’s InDesign community, and not gotten any answers. Someone told me about InDesign Secrets – I’m hoping someone here can help me.

I am working in an InDesign (CC 2014) document which will have some repeating figure numbers, for example, Figure 21-13 Description (sheet 1 of 3), Figure 21-13 Description (sheet 2 of 3), Figure 21-13 Description (sheet 3 of 3). We have a paragraph style defined to pick up the chapter number (^H) and increment the figure number (^#).

Is there a way to change this so I have a style that instead of incrementing the figure number, automatically picks up the previous figure number? We don’t want to do the 2nd and 3rd figure numbers using Convert Bullet to Text if possible because if we add a figure, we have to go find all of the ones we changed.
