I am setting up a template within InDesign.
I have several paragraph styles that I have set up in my new template and have separated them by folders within the Paragraph Styles, hoping to stop the following problem. for instance “Body Text” folder or “Resume” folder.
When ever I copy information from another InDesign document or insert text from my libraries, the paragraph styles from the document I am copying from imports into new document the paragraph styles. How do I stop other paragraph styles from importing into my current document paragraph styles???
I have searched for an answer on this many times, but never really have found the answer. At least one that I understand anyway.
Re: How do I stop other paragraph styles from importing into my current document paragraph styles?
I don’t know of a way to stop that with InDesign files. Before importing those files, you can change the Style names or Delete the Styles, Replace with No Styles (check Preserve Formatting).
If the old styles are of no use to you, import all your documents into a new file, then Delete Paragraph Styles. Load your new Paragraph Styles from your Template.
If you have a lot of documents, using the Book feature is a possibility (using Find/Change or probably a GREP).
Basically, it’s a name game. If it’s easier to temporarily change your Template Paragraph Styles, you can delete the old ones and replace with the new names.
