      Hell,
I have to use CS4 at work….I am creating two documents with the same elements one of the element being a tree in the background with words on top. I have the transparency set at 100% in indesign and the tree is at 10% transparency in AI.

However the two documents are printing the tree differently, one the tree comes out darker than the other.

Everything else is printing fine, same printer…I am not advanced enough to solve this one. I am trying to tweak some settings but not having luck.

If anyone could provide insight it would be greatly appreciated!

      Thank you.

You have it at 10% in AI? Or 100%? If it is 10%, then of course it will look different.

This could depend on many different things, including the color swatch you have applied in each program, or the color mode of the two documents, or the print settings.

      A few things to check:

      1. Convert all Spot colors to process (spot colors and raster effects (such as transparency) do not play well together)
      2. Check Overprint on the tree, both with the Select and Direction tool in InDesign and Illustrator (turn it off)
      3. Does the artwork really need to be transparent or are you using Transparency to lighten it? Using Transparency is problematic in printing; don’t use it unless you have to.
      4. If you are exporting to PDF, use PDF/X-1a

      g’luck
