      Hi guys

I’ve been trying over and over to unlink the .xlsx file from the text but nothing seems to be working.

Here’s a link to the InDesign file (just have a look at the links panel).

If anyone has a solution to this i would be grateful. It’s driving me crazy!

      Thanks
      Vlad

Sorry about the files size above (i didn’t realise it was 48mb).

Here’s the same thing but much smaller (1.3mb).

Thank you for posting a smaller file! :-)

This file is linked on Master Page B. I see that in the right column of the Links panel. If you open Master Page B in the Pages panel and delete everything, the link goes away.

If you want it in the document, but not linked, you’ll have to update or locate the link (it’s missing for me), and then select it in the Links panel and choose Unlink from the panel menu.

(Linking to spreadsheets is inside Preferences > File Handling)

      Hi David

This solves the mystery why I wasn’t able to Unlink the Excel file from the links panel.
Once I enabled the “Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files” checkbox in File Handling preferences and relinked the file, the Unlink option magically appeared.

The bad news was once I relink the file all the text disappears. The linked Excel file didn’t correlate with the actual copy in any way. This is a big document and there are a lot of linked boxes (i only sent one page) so it looks like I will have to recreate them manually.

It seem like whatever was placed before the checkbox was enabled cannot be unlinked anymore but the preference option mentioned should help avoid the same thing from happening in the future.

Thank you so much for that
