Ok, I have 2 offset printers that insist that I send them PDF files that are outlined (never mind one of the primary purposes of PDF is to eliminate the need to outline fonts). At any rate, I had created a PDF setting based on the PDF/X-3:2003 standard, and in the Advanced settings for output I had selected “High Res Convert to Outlines” … never had a problem with it and it kept my printers happy.
I just got a new MBP and to my chagrin, that option no longer appears in the dropdown.
Can someone tell me if I’m missing something here? I also copied my preset (Offset wCrops X3 outlines.joboptions) file to my new computer and although it shows up in the list, the resulting PDF is NOT outlined.I know I can manually select all and convert to outlines, but seriously, what gives here? I can’t find anything on Adobe that talks about this.
My old laptop is running the same build of INDD as my new one: 12.1.0.56 and I’m running MacOS Sierra, latest build.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Stephen,
I just checked the X-3:2003 in ID 12.1.0.56 and I don’t see the option. I’m running ID on a mid-2012 MBP, OS 10.11.6 (15G1611).
Have a look at this discussion for an alternative.

Its easy to do in Acrobat. Go to preflight in Acrobat Pro (Cmd + shift x) and type “outline” in the search field top right and that gives the option to convert all fonts to outlines

@ Lindsey and Skiddy,
Thanks for the feedback. The discussion post is very interesting and actually, I had no idea you could convert to outlines in Acrobat. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Acrobat because it just is not intuitive to me, although DC is much better.
Anyway, thanks you both of you for great answers!Have a great week.

My guess is that the “High Res Convert to Outlines” you had seen was built by you or someone else… as you saw in the link from Lindsey, that technique requires Acrobat 4 export, transparency on all pages, and a custom Transparency Blend Space.
The Acrobat DC option is probably better, but I have an irrational resistance to updating to Acrobat DC, and I’m still on v11. Someday I’ll get there.
