Is there a comprehensive guide to using the Tables function in InDesign? Try as I may, I can’t seem to get the hang of creating Table/Cell Styles. When I do apply them, sometimes they work and other time not so much.

Do I have to strip the placed Word document of any values to proceed? I break all links to any styles for Table, Cell, Paragraph and Character. The when I apply it works in some cells and not others. I un-merge all cells.

      I just don’t get it.

Bruce, I can sympathize. I just spent some time recently trying to understand Table/Cell Styles also.

It ended up that I only used the Table Style for the outer border of the entire table, and left the rest to Cell Styles.

The best method I found was to create Paragraph Styles and attach them to the Cell Styles, so that when I select a set of cells, both the Cell Style and Paragraph Style would apply.

It’s really important for [None] to be selected anytime the Cell Style should take on the Table Style. (or delete a point size so it appears blank).

Not sure if I help much, but you’re not alone….

I’ll give it a try. I have some files/templates that my Tables styles work amazingly. I just need consistency and to know I can whip through tables as fast as my deadlines demand.
