      Hi everyone,

I need some help about an XML that I have imported into an Indesign document. I use InDesign CC 2019. I have imported my XML file and I can see all the tags in my Structure pane. I also have created a layout.

When I drag and drop the root element into my layout, Indesign creates an empty text box with the little red cross at the bottom for exceeded text. I tried to take the exceeded text to put it in another text box but Indesign does the same. It creates another empty text box with exceeded text and I can’t see my XML file in my layout. I couldn’t figure out what is wrong with it. Can you help ? I hope my explanation was clear enough.
I looked on the Internet but couldn’t find anything related to my problem.

Many thanks in advance for your help.
      Flo

      Hi Flo,

I would start by selecting the text frame and opening Story Editor (Cmd/Ctrl + Y) to view your content and get a sense of what’s happening. You can see which Paragraph Styles are applied to the text in the lefthand column. Some things to check when text is perpetually overset are paragraph Keep Options on the text and Text Wrap on any graphic elements. Additionally, any inline graphic elements that may have come in too tall to fit inside the frame will cause this issue.

      Hi David,

Thank you for your quick answer. I will check that tomorrow when I will be back at work. I DO have graphic elements and now that you tell me they might be too tall ! I will check that ! How do I proceed if my problem is due to the size of the graphics ?

Besides, it is possible that I had a specific style selected while drag and dropping the root element !

      Thank you for the tips!

      Hello,

I just wanted to say that you were right David. It was because my graphics were too big ! I resized them all before importing the XML file and it worked.

      Thank you again,
      Flo
