Updated Adobe Exchange Available

Mergers don’t always occur smoothly. One of the results of Adobe’s merger with Macromedia was an abortive attempt to combine the Adobe Exchange (formerly known as Adobe Studio Exchange) and Macromedia Exchange. The exchanges contain actions, plug-ins, scripts, templates, tutorials, and much more. We’ve referred to it several times?for example, when I wrote a posting about a template of keyboard shortcuts.

When the two exchanges merged, the result was a mess. The Adobe Web team attempted to recreate it using Macromedia Flash technology. Many users complained about lost data, slow performance, and poor navigation.

However, Adobe does listen. They went back to the drawing boards, and have today launched a new site using HTML instead of SWF. You’ll find the InDesign Exchange here. It is much faster and easier to navigate so you should check it out. It has many good InDesign resources!

There’s also a forum on the Adobe User to User forums where you can give feedback on the new format.

Steve Werner is a trainer, consultant, and co-author (with David Blatner and Christopher Smith) of InDesign for QuarkXPress Users and Moving to InDesign. He has worked in the graphic arts industry for more than 20 years and was the training manager for ten years at Rapid Lasergraphics. He has taught computer graphics classes since 1988.
  • This is extremely good news, Steve. I was so frustrated with that Flash version. However, there are some hiccups still to work out; I can’t get Search to work at all at this point.

Yes, much better, but I would like to see a filtering option for Mac or Win.

  • Jerome says:

Good, I stopped using it when they switched to Flash. It was just too slow to be usable.

  • Sacha Heck says:

    Hey Erique,
You can filter for Mac or Win in the Advanced Search mode.
