InDesign How-to Video: Create Documents With Bleed

2

In this week’s InDesignSecrets video, Mike Rankin sets up a document to bleed—or extend—to the edge of a printed page. When printing a document, a bleed allows for any paper shift that can occur, while ensuring all elements that need to will “bleed” off the page.

You apply a .125″ all around and do NOT turn on facing pages. That works for a single page document. Would those setting apply for a book or magazine with multiple pages?

  • James Wamser says:

Great video Mike! Working for a commercial printing company we often see documents with no bleed, type too close trim and documents not built to final size.

To answer Rich’s question. Yes, this works with facing pages that contain multiple pages. We prefer single page PDFs (not spreads), but as Mike mentioned in his video, check with your printer.
