InDesign How-to Video: How to Create a Word Search Puzzle
In this week’s InDesignSecrets video, Nigel French shows how to quickly create a word search puzzle in InDesign. Using an online generator for the text, he employs the Gridify feature, find/change, and keep options to craft the perfect puzzle.

Err …
1. The end of the video was interrupted with someone talking over, seemingly closing down the presentation.
2. When I did as instructed the text boxes did not do as shown.
The video is from a live event at CreativePro Week, hence the extra voices.
Which part didn’t work for you?
How does he make the text grids without the Gutter? I see he uses a short cut, but when I go to do that it automatically adds them. I have also gone to Object/Text Frame Options and set it to 0. Then have gone to create the text grid and….to no avail.
I’m also having the same issue as Nicole Donahue. Please advise on how to fix this issue
Great point, Nicole and G! I see the problem… Nigel must have done one thing before starting the tip that he forgot to tell people:
The amount of space between the text frames is managed in a weird way: by changing Layout > Margins and Columns. Choose that and set the Gutter field to zero, and click OK. THEN, when you gridify the text frame, there will be zero space between the frames.
Thank you so much! I made my 1st word search :)
