This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 109
I should be getting work done, especially as Anne-Marie is out teaching epub stuff in Maine this week, but instead I’m rummaging through InDesign articles. Found some good ones I want to share with you!
- Good article about building a grid-based design for a magazine
- FontMixer from Indiscripts looks really fascinating… need to write a blog post about that at some point.
- Are you a scripter? If so, and you’re using CC, you probably want to know how to script QR codes in InDesign. Also, note the “AddQRCodes.jsx” script that it mentions… it says it’s in the SDK, but actually we all have it already, because it is in the samples folder in the Scripts panel!
- Speaking of QR codes, Sandee wrote up a good piece on using them on their blog. (She has an even bigger and better article coming in the next issue of InDesign Magazine!)
- Oh, here’s another InDesign scripting resource — seems to focus on AppleScript. I have to admit that I particularly like his April Fool’s joke post from earlier this year.
- Interesting article from Kelly about using the Typefitter Pro plug-in from Teacup. Great tool for making text fit!
- If you’re a designer and you love typography, you just have to check out this free hour-long documentary movie from lynda.com about Doyald Young, Logotype Designer.
- Hey, Peachpit posted a free section from the newest edition of Real World InDesign CC!
- Still have QuarkXPress documents that you need converted to InDesign format? You can use Markzware’s Q2ID plug-in, which has just been updated for CC. Note that the new Creative Cloud version of Q2ID is based on an annual subscription to the product.
- If you’ve signed up for Adobe Creative Cloud and you’re not sure if it’s working… that is, you’re not sure about the status of the servers, check this status page out!
- Okay, one just for fun: If you’re an editor or you live with one, you may (or may not) find this piece about copy editors in the Onion funny.
Enjoy!
