This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 121
PePcon is coming and there is so much more to do! So I’d better get this list of great articles off my plate and on to yours. Take a moment and check these out; good stuff in here!
- Are you looking to find an indexer who knows InDesign? (Hint: follow that link.)
- Important stuff: 10 InDesign Preferences You Must Change Today
- Ever wish for a workflow where non-InDesign users could edit/translate your InDesign documents? Check out Tim Cole’s webinar showing Woodwing’s Elvis DAM and 1io’s one2edit.
- It’s fun to learn about new digital magazines and try them out. Here’s an article at tech4pub about a new DPS magazine called Flow.
- Fun with GREP: Inflationary English: A GREP Tribute to Victor Borge
- Yet another problem with InDesign transparency effects interacting with spot colors fixed by Claudia McCue. (As she discussed in the Yucky Discolored Box syndrome article and Steve mentioned in the white-box-effect article, you have to use overprinting to make transparency effects work with spot color backgrounds! It’s physics — not something that Adobe can “fix.”)
- Kelly Vaughn wrote up a nice tutorial on An Easier Way to Do an 11×17 Foldout Page
- I have to admit, I’m a sucker for “word clouds.” That’s why I’m so pleased to see that Indiscripts has a special offer and beta of their new version of Wordalizer!
- Be sure to check out this great interview with Russell Brown about Illustrator. (Yes, I know it’s not InDesign, but they’re siblings!)
- If you’re a CC subscriber, you have access to hundreds of great fonts via Typekit for desktop. Here’s Justin Seeley’s nod toward 10 fonts every designer should sync to their desktop.
- And, speaking of type and Typekit, Adobe has just released a new free, open sourced font called Source Serif.
- There’s a new version of in5 from Ajar Productions — the great tool for exporting HTML out of InDesign.
- You may have heard about (or experienced) Adobe’s CC downtime a week or so ago. Justin Seeley wrote a good piece about why people shouldn’t be that upset. However, he missed one important point: The DPS servers were also down, which meant that no one could make DPS apps for a day. That was pretty painful for some publishers.
- DPS users often ask how to stream youtube videos into their folios… here’s how.
Enjoy!
Thanks for giving me a shout out! I hope the article is useful for people.
Thanks for including me in this article, David! I hadn’t considered the DPS server issue, and I’m sure that was frustrating for some. Cheers!
Every article looks tantalizing. I thought I was going to get work done today …
